There are some affiliate marketers that make a couple of bucks to a few hundred bucks a month and then there are those that make thousands of dollars per month. The difference between these two groups will be discussed in this article.
The hardcore fact is most affiliates are looking for an easy way to make money but looking for an easy route is not going to help you reach the goal of making thousands of dollars a month. 1. Identify A Niche

The reason I chose Clickbank & Paydot.com is because there is no application process to get started. Other affiliate programs like Commission Junction and Google Affiliate Network require that you already have a website built in order to apply to their programs. You can consider these programs later after you have built your site.
2. Build A Simple Website
Once you have identified your niche, the next thing you do will be to go online and research for information that you will use to build your website. Please take note that you will need to build a free content website with all the information you can get concerning your subject. I simple way to get started is to find free PLR (private label rights) articles. All you have to do is type in your niche word and the word PLR in Google search and you will find lots of articles written by other authors. What you are going to do is take the main ideas of those articles and create your own articles of original content. Do not use these articles as your own, that is plagiarism. Use them to get your brain juices flowing to write your own articles. Don't be afraid to give away this information. Once you give away and over deliver to your prospects, they will always come back to you for guidance. But do not sell anything on your site.
3. Grow An Opt-In Email List
When you build your website one of the goals of your website will be to get email leads. This you can achieve by providing a simple opt-in email webform on every page of your free content website. This will make it easy for your visitors to subscribe to your email newsletter or tips of that subject. You should cultivate the habit of getting information that will be useful at least once every week to your subscriber base. I find that Aweber is a great tool to create web forms for your website. Your money is going to come from these email addresses. You are creating a relationship with your soon to be customers. If they trust you, they will also buy from you. Once you get their email addresses you will send them email via an autoresponder. You can use an autoresponder to essentially send emails out to your prospect list, even when you're not at a computer and be available to them 7 days a week 365 days a year. Other autoresponders include I-Contact, Get Response, and Free Autobot.
4. Publish More Free Content
Each article you find online that will be helpful both to your subscriber base and prospects should be posted on your website. Try to only provide high quality information and newsletters to your website. Give out freebies on your site to enhance subscription rate and practically over deliver on your information generosity. For example, if your subject is trout fishing share with your clients your secret way to catch more fish and the exact step-by-step method of doing it. Better yet, produce a video showing how you did it. It will add value to your website and help you connect with your email list. (You don't have to be in the video if you have a face for radio). You can narrate without showing your face.
5. Find Out What Your Prospects Want.
Send your prospects a newsletter with your autoresponder and try to build relationship with your list by constantly replying each and every email. Show them you actually care for them by pre-selling yourself. Let them know you are interested in them as a person and not just someone who is interested in making a quick bucks. Give of yourself freely and you will earn their trust and confidence. Find out what product they actually need. Do a survey and ask them what kinds of products they want and need and then provide them with what they want.
6. Get The Product For Your List
After you have built trust with your email list they will be in the mood to buy from you as a recommendation from a trusted source. You have to get products that you are affiliated with or that you have bought license for or products that have Master resell rights but this product must be of high quality or else you will loose the credibility that took you time to build. For example for your trout fishers you create an e-book called "The Ninja Trout Method" and in this e-book you give details on how to catch a boat full of fish every time you fish. This has to be something no one else has already done or take a product that is already a best seller and tweak it with more information and make it better. If you don't want to sell your own product, find an affiliate product and buy it yourself first and then take your recommendation to your list. Being well acquainted with the product yourself will allow you to give your customers the best attributes of the product and give you the ability to tell them why it's so great.
7. Sell The Products To Your List.
If you are selling your own product send out your recommendation or review on the product and make it seem like a special offer that has a time span within which the price will be increased, this will make your offer sell out fast. This concept is called the scarcity concept. You will be amazed at the result you will get this time. You can easily make tens of thousands of dollars this way. One thing I must add. If you tell your clients that the product will be off the market by a particular date or the price is going up, please follow through. You can make it available at another date or lower the price later but you have to be a person of your word or else it will seem like you were being less than genuine about your statement of the product being available for a limited time or at a certain price.
8. Go Back To Step 4 (Publish More Contents)
Repeat the steps from 4 to 7 for every 2-4 months to your email list and do not overwhelm them with products they don't need.
