| How to Start Your Own Affiliate Marketing Business for Free |

Today, affiliate marketing has become a viable option for absolutely everyone to generate residual income. Some have even been able to make affiliate marketing as their main job, earning up to $100,000 annually; some top marketers can go even higher.
For the rest of us who simply enjoy writing and sharing information with others, and wish to generate some modest income from that pleasure, a $10,000 to $20,000 annual revenue is very much feasible for about 7 hours of work per week. That sounds pretty good for a second stream income, doesn't it? And the best thing is, you can do all this for absolutely free! And I'll tell you how to do it.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
Let's start with the basics. What is affiliate marketing? A good and simple way to sum it up is this: affiliate marketing is all about getting paid to sell other people's product. Today, we can do it online, just as others sell their products online. So all an affiliate marketer needs to do is promote some products, direct people to the sites that sell those products, and if they buy the products, you get a commission—a percentage of the money paid to buy those products goes to your pocket. As simple as that! These commissions range from as low as 4% to as high as 75%, depending on which affiliate program you join.
If you want to join the wagon, first you need to register yourself to an affiliate program, and get your personal username and links to the products that they sell. If someone on the internet clicked on your links, got directed to the products you promote, and bought those products, you'd earn your commission.
What affiliate programs are available out there?
There are numerous sellers that offer affiliate program on the internet. Some of the best and well-respected affiliate programs I'd recommend are from Clickbank and Amazon.com. Clickbank offers a range of e-books to promote and you can get a generous commission up to 75%. Amazon.com is a well-known online retail seller that allows you to promote their products and get commission from 4% to 15%. Of course there are several more sellers out there that offer affiliate programs and you're welcome to research on your own. Just google the words "affiliate program" and you'll get a list you can choose from. But if you're a beginner, the two programs I recommend would make a good start.
OK I've registered to an affiliate program and got my links. Now what?
Now you need a place to put those links so people can start clicking on them. You can make your own website and pay for host. But this article is to help you start your business at no cost. So here are your options:
Use Squidoo
Squidoo is a great site to bring people to your sellers. Squidoo allows you to build your own site (or "lens" as they call it there) for free and you can put your links to your seller right there. Building a Squidoo lens is not only easy, it's fun! You can register yourself right away. Select the products you want to sell from your favorite sellers, build a lens to promote them, and paste the links to the products. Build a website for free
There are places where you can build your website for absolutely free. My two favorites are joomla.com and synthasite.com. They offer various templates for you to choose from and have extremely user-friendly widgets. You don't need any skills or prior knowledge on how to build a website; I promise! With a little creativity you can have your own website at absolutely no cost. As always, put your affiliate links on the website and you're set. I have my lens and my website. Now how do I bring traffic to my websites?
Getting traffic to your websites is no rocket science. There are several ways to achieve this goal. The most common ones are by writing articles with links to your websites (like what I'm doing here) or by promoting your websites through your social network (facebook, yahoo groups, etc.). Another method is to employ viral marketing. When you register to a viral marketing program, you'll get a link that you can put on your website. If other people click that link, they'll be offered to join the same viral marketing program by promoting your site. I will be submitting an article specifically on bringing traffic for free in a short while, so be sure to look it up or RSS me.
And there it is. Now don't expect to just suddenly get your $10,000 by tomorrow. These things take time. When you first set your affiliate marketing business up, you'll probably get a modest $25 per month. As you increase the popularity of your websites and lenses, you'll get more and more people buying the products you promote. Take about 7 hours a week to promote your websites and manage them. Be patient and persistent. You'll get there. Good luck!
