Commit yourself with passion to your Affiliate Marketing Program. There is a multitude of different affiliate programs out there, and it is important to not only choose the right ones for you, but also to make sure that you have ample time at your disposal to make it work successfully. Most programs require time to build up a customer base and there is generally no quick fixes or instant success. Patience and commitment is called for, and whenever you see headlines like "Make $10,000 in one month, guaranteed with our new Affiliate Program", please stay far away, as it is most likely a scam.
Plan Your Time Commitment. The Boy Scouts Movement has the motto of "be prepared" and this is further complemented by anther saying that states, "to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail". It is in this context that you must be very serious about the time you have allotted to your program. Stick to your schedule, no matter what the prevailing circumstances might be. Success breeds more success and even if your business is growing and you do not feel the need for additional marketing, there is no harm in looking for innovative ideas to progress you to the next level.
All businesses either work seasonally or go through cycles and therefore beware of becoming too complacent due to a period of good sales which might negatively impact your commitment to your affiliate program. Always ask yourself that, "In the event of a slowing period in sales, how well am I prepared to accommodate the decrease in my revenue? It is imperative to make good use of time and ensure that you find something to do with that time every week. This could take the form of writing additional copy for your website, spending time on blogs and message boards or even just managing your email database. Consistent time commitment towards your affiliate program every week will ensure long-term success. This commitment will become evident within the wider online marketing community and reflect on you web pages through the quality content that you provide to your customers. The greatest and most valuable spin-off is that your status as an expert marketer will be recognized and enhanced. Your customers will continue to come back to see what new program or service you have and this will ultimately result in repeat sales. One of the more advanced strategies in marketing refers to the "lifetime value of a customer", which essentially means that we must make our offerings both innovative and attractive so that customers come back.
Concentrate on the Pre-Sell and then The Up-Sell. Inexperienced or greedy affiliates that try to sell the product to the client with their first advert page, and reveal both the product's positive and negative qualities, are setting themselves up for failure. Spending valuable time describing every last detail of the product on the landing page, is such a fruitless exercise because as an affiliate marketer, your function is to pre-sell to the client.
Do not fall into the trap of providing confusing information that might sow doubt into the mind of the customer. Your primary aim should be to get the client interested in the product, and what the benefits are. You must be able to strike a fine balance between too much and too little information. By not offering enough information you will prevent clients from continuing on to the actual sales page, and could also make you look like a newbie affiliate marketer.
Too much information on the other hand, can be just as dangerous to a prospective client because you might go into so much detail that the customer becomes disinterested. Keep it simple during the pre-sell at the landing page and once they go to the actual up-sell page, then give them all the bells and whistles. This strategy of two-stage selling is used by most of the successful super affiliates.
