I get an obscene amount of spam e-mail daily. I have seen as many as 117 e-mails come in on one day and at least 50 to 60 on most occasions. Although I usually will go into my spam folder and just click empty, today I surprisingly had a little more free time than usual and decided to dig a little further. For one I was curious to see what exactly these unwanted messages were consisting of and two I have this tired feeling each time I see that folder so loaded as if it is actual junk mail in my mailbox that I am going to have to sort through.

I started from the top of the list and began to open each e-mail one by one. By the way, these are all e-mails I received today. As I clicked through each and every one I had to scroll all the way to the bottom of the message for the unsubscribe link, where in some messages it was almost not at all obvious that an it was even there because it was so far down in the message. Some messages also ask that you unsubscribe from the person or company sending the message in addition to unsubscribing from the source that is being marketed. Tricky, you think? I would say so. I had duplicate and triplicate messages of the same exact advertisement. Now of course in order to make sure this was done for good I manually unsubscribed from all of them even if I did it in the previous message from the same source. Tedious, you think? I would say so.

Thirty-eight minutes later, my spam folder was empty and I sighed, good riddance.

These affiliate marketers have got this whole marketing thing wrong. I cannot possibly be the only one who feels this way about all this unwanted mail, and are they making any money promoting in this manner? With spam filters set so high for most, their messages are automatically hitting the trash bin. As I went down the list and read some of their pitches, I was not even remotely interested but more so convinced that they deserved to be right in the spam box. I wondered why I was even getting the e-mail to begin with. I am not interested in eye surgery, watching movies from my computer, dating black singles, losing weight, or making $225 a day doing something easy.... sarcastically I say; sure, right.

Without putting a lot of effort into warming up their target market I am afraid they will get the delete click most times. The key word here is target. Do they even have a target market? Or, are they just paying for e-mail lists? How solid is that? You are targeting people who may not even care about the product being marketed, I sure did not. Would you say that having a more definite interested market would return better results?

Their second biggest mistake, I picked up in all my spam was that one source was promoting about 7 different products or services. That made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside... ( I am being sarcastic again). Affiliate marketers are provided with lists of so many services and products that could be promoted and just like that, they become product struck and start to promote them all. One-step at a time usually equals success. Learn your product in and out and then without any doubt your promotion will be dedicated and accurate, not just another e-mail in the spam folder. If you choose to move on to one more after you have mastered the first, then go right ahead but make every effort count and make the content in your message sell.
